Position Overview
This role is essential for delivering exceptional patient-centered care within telemetry units. The Advanced Telemetry RN operates with a high level of autonomy and expertise, collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and optimal health outcomes in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care:
    • Monitor patients requiring continuous cardiac observation.
    • Conduct thorough assessments and respond swiftly to changes in cardiac rhythms and neurological status.
    • Administer medications, including non-titratable drips, while monitoring therapeutic effects.
    • Create and implement personalized care plans for cardiac and neurological conditions.
    • Advocate for patients with empathy, ensuring dignity and respect.
    • Educate patients and families on medical conditions, treatments, and lifestyle adjustments.
    • Promote evidence-based telemetry care practices.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Maintain a safe, clean environment adhering to infection control and regulatory standards such as The Joint Commission and OSHA.
    • Identify and report safety hazards and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Documentation:
    • Accurately document patient care and responses in Electronic Health Records following established standards.
  • Professional Development and Leadership:
    • Mentor new graduate nurses, new hires, and students to support their growth.
    • Engage in ongoing education and serve as a resource for best telemetry practices.
    • Assume Relief Charge Nurse duties as needed.
  • Emergency Preparedness:
    • Respond promptly and effectively to cardiac emergencies such as arrhythmias and chest pain.
Qualifications
  • Experience:
    • Minimum two years as a Registered Nurse in telemetry or equivalent intermediate care settings.
    • Experience providing post-procedure care including post-cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, and post-CABG monitoring.
    • Proficient in ECG/EKG interpretation and arrhythmia management.
    • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-acuity environments requiring quick decision-making and teamwork.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years telemetry experience considered.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Current Registered Nurse license in the applicable state.
    • Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
    • ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate required for progressive care units; transitional program candidates must obtain within six months.
    • Preferred: Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN Adult) certification.
